Plumber in Miami

Miami is not one building stock. Which one you live in decides what goes wrong and what it costs to fix.

Part of our core Miami-Dade service area.

There is no such thing as a typical Miami property, and pretending otherwise is how people get quoted for the wrong job.

A 1926 house in Coral Gables, a 1955 building on Miami Beach, a 1988 tower in Aventura and a 2015 townhouse in Doral fail in completely different ways. The useful first question is not “what is wrong” but “what is it built of, and when”.

The four Miamis, plumbing-wise

Pre-war and pre-1970s houses — much of Coral Gables, older Coconut Grove, parts of North Miami and Hialeah. Original cast-iron waste and sometimes galvanized supply. The symptoms are recurring blockages, pressure that has dropped everywhere over decades, and damp that comes and goes with use.

Mid-century Beach and mainland buildings — Miami Beach especially. Cast iron again, plus condo associations that shape every job, plus salt air that attacks anything exposed.

Condo towers from the 1980s onward — Brickell, Aventura, Sunny Isles, downtown. Newer pipework in good condition, but buildings fitted out in one go, so the small components fail in cohorts. The constraint is access, not the pipe.

Newer construction — Doral, Kendall, newer Pinecrest. CPVC and PEX, modern waste, and a different failure list: fittings, connectors, first-generation water heaters, and hard water quietly shortening everything.

Hard water, incidentally, is the one thing all four have in common. Miami-Dade water is hard across the county, and scale is what kills water heaters everywhere in it.

Who we are

British plumbers and handymen. Nineteen years in the London trade before relocating to Miami in 2020.

London plumbing is old, tight and unforgiving — you work in buildings where a mistake appears in somebody else’s flat — so you learn to plan the job, protect the space and check your own work before anyone asks. Florida is a different climate, different code and different materials. The standard did not change.

In practice that means three things you can hold us to: we turn up when we said, we put the price in writing before starting, and we leave the property cleaner than we found it.

Questions we get asked about this

Do you cover the whole of Miami?

Miami-Dade is our core area and we work across it. We also cover the surrounding South Florida region for planned work. What we will not do is claim a fast response somewhere we cannot reach quickly.

What is the most common plumbing problem in Miami?

It depends entirely on the age of the building, which is the point of this page. In pre-1970s stock it is cast-iron drains. In towers it is angle stops and connectors reaching the end of their life together. In newer houses it is hard water shortening the life of water heaters.

Are you actually licensed in Florida?

Licensed plumbing work is carried out by a licensed Florida contractor, Lic. #CFC1433820, and that number appears in the footer of every page on this site, which is what Florida requires. BritFix manages the job, the quote and the paperwork. All plumbing work is completed to the Florida Building Code.
