Fixture & fitting installation

Shelves, rails, brackets and blinds — fixed into the right anchor for the wall that is actually there.

What this looks like

A television being levelled onto its wall bracket on a stone feature wall, the fixings set before the screen goes on.

Most things that fall off walls were not badly made. They were badly fixed.

A bracket is only as good as what it is anchored into, and in Miami a single property can have drywall over timber studs, drywall over metal studs, solid concrete block and hollow partition — sometimes in the same room. A plug that holds beautifully in one will pull straight out of another.

The wall decides the fixing

Drywall over timber stud. Ideal. Find the stud, use a fixing rated for the load, and the job is straightforward. Missing the stud is what turns this into a repair job later.

Drywall over metal stud. Very common in newer Doral and Brickell construction. Metal studs are thin and will not hold a wood screw. They need a fixing designed for them, and toggles rather than plastic plugs.

Solid block or concrete. Common in older single-story properties and in high-rise units. Holds anything, but needs the right drill, the right bit and enough patience not to blow out the face.

Hollow partition with nothing behind it. Needs a spreading anchor, and there is a load limit whatever you use. This is where we will tell you a wall genuinely will not take what you want to hang on it, rather than fixing it and hoping.

Tile over any of the above. Drilled properly, the tile is fine. Drilled with the wrong bit or at the wrong speed, it cracks, and a cracked tile is a much bigger conversation than a hole.

We check what the wall is before drilling. It takes seconds and it is the whole job.

What we fit

  • Shelves, floating shelves and shelving systems
  • TV brackets — fixed, tilting and full-motion
  • Mirrors, pictures and heavy artwork
  • Towel rails, robe hooks, toilet roll holders and bathroom hardware
  • Grab rails and accessibility fittings, into fixings rated to be leaned on
  • Blinds, curtain poles and track
  • Coat racks, key hooks and hall furniture
  • Flat-pack furniture assembled and secured to the wall
  • Door hardware, stops, closers and thresholds

Anything tall or heavy gets secured to the wall as part of the job. That is not an upsell; it is what stops a bookcase going over.

Bathroom and kitchen fittings

Worth a note, because this is where a fixing and a leak meet.

Drilling into a tiled wet wall means knowing what is behind it. A hole through a tile is fine; a hole through a supply pipe behind the tile is a very expensive afternoon. We are licensed plumbers, so we know what is likely to be running where and we check before committing.

Where a fitting needs sealing after fixing, it gets sealed properly rather than smeared.

What you get

  • The right anchor for the wall, not the one that came in the box
  • Levelled and measured twice, because a shelf that is out by a sixteenth of an inch reads as crooked
  • Holes drilled with dust extraction, not into a towel
  • Old fixings removed and the holes made good
  • The area left clean

Send a list

This is the clearest example of the handyman economics: almost all the cost of one small job is getting somebody to the property. Eight fittings in one visit costs far less than three visits.

If you have a list, send it with photos of the walls and the items. We will tell you what fixings are needed before we arrive, and the visit clears the list instead of half of it. For a broader list across the property, see handyman services.

Accessibility fittings

Grab rails and similar fittings are the one category where a bad fixing is genuinely dangerous, and they are fitted badly more often than anything else on this page.

A grab rail is not a towel rail. It has to take a person’s full weight, suddenly, at an angle, and often wet. That means fixing into structure — a stud, a noggin, solid block, or a purpose-fitted backing plate — not into board with a plastic plug, however confident the plug’s packaging is.

Where the wall genuinely will not carry it, the answer is to add backing rather than to fit it anyway. In a tiled bathroom that means planning before the tile goes on, which is why it is worth raising during a remodel rather than after.

We fit grab rails, shower seats and similar fittings into anchors rated for the load, and we will tell you plainly when a wall needs preparing first. This is not a job where optimism is a strategy.

What affects the cost

  • How many items, and whether they are done together.
  • What the walls are. Solid block takes longer than timber stud.
  • What is being hung. A picture is not a full-motion TV bracket.
  • Whether anything is behind the wall that has to be located first.
  • Making good where an old fixing has left damage.

Who this is for

Questions we get asked about this

Why did my last bracket come out of the wall?

Almost always the wrong anchor, not a weak wall. Drywall over timber, drywall over metal stud and solid block each need a different fixing, and a plug that works in one will pull straight out of another.

How do I know what my walls are?

You often cannot tell by looking, and in Miami a single room can be more than one. We check before drilling — it takes seconds and it decides whether the fixing holds.

Can you mount a TV over a fireplace or on a partition wall?

Usually, with the right fixing and sometimes with a backing plate. What we will not do is hang a heavy bracket off something that will not take it and hope. If a wall genuinely will not carry it, we will say so.

Do you supply the brackets and fixings?

We bring fixings as standard. For brackets and hardware, tell us what you have bought and we will check it suits the wall and the load before the visit.

How a job runs

  1. You tell us the job Through the form or WhatsApp, with a photo if you have one. A photo of the leak and the pipework around it usually tells us what to bring.
  2. We quote in writing Before anything starts. What is included, what is not, and what would change the price. No doorstep numbers.
  3. We turn up and do it At the time we said. Floors protected, work done to Florida Building Code, and we tell you straight away if we find something behind the wall.
  4. We clean up and check it Tested, tidied, and the old parts taken away or left with you.
